Celebrating Agriculture is a fun, free, educational day showcasing the benefits agriculture provides to the region, as well as the challenges farms face today. It is held at the Woodstock Fairgrounds on Route 169, Woodstock, CT. See Directions and the 2008 Photo Gallery, and article in the Woodstock Villager.
The Quinebaug-Shetucket Heritage Corridor, which extends from Northeastern Connecticut into South Central Massachusetts, is considered The Last Green Valley between Washington D.C. and Boston, because of the significant amount of open space in the region, much of which is agricultural land. This farmland provides the area with a sustainable food supply and products necessary for basic, everyday needs. Farms contribute to open space, wildlife, and the economic viability of the region.
Celebrating Agriculture started in 2001 as part of an effort to promote community education and participation in agriculture, as well as to support consumer purchasing of local farm products. Each year, our goal is to welcome more people to learn who our farm neighbors are, and how to support local agriculture to enrich and maintain the open space -- the working landscape -- of our area.
We also invite growers and producers to sell their products and demonstrate processes, as well as local organizations. Woodstock Connecticut, as the host of this event, exemplifies a town working with its agricultural industry to maintain agriculture as an integral part of both its economic and environmental future.
We hope that community members will learn more about forestry, farming, recreational agriculture, and all the other important faces of agriculture, and enjoy a nice day of good food and fun for all ages. We also encourage educators to invite their students so they can learn more about this essential part of our lives.

Be a part of Celebrating Agriculture! Volunteer your time to help make the event a success. We have many jobs available, from directing traffic to running tables at the breakfast. We especially need people for set up and clean up activities.
For more information and specific tasks still needed please contact Nancy Ferlow, Volunteer Coordinator via email at nancy.ferlow@ct.usda.gov or call her at 860.871.4049 (voice mail: 9013-149). Thank you in advance!
